A few weeks ago, I got an email from Sonya. She is a writer and her publicist insisted she provide a portrait for her upcoming book release and website. She said and I quote, "any tricks you might have to make people look better than they actually do would be much appreciated". I can perform many tricks but was pretty sure that once we spent some time together, she would get comfortable in front of my camera. We met in town and were instantly immersed in conversation. I could tell, however, that she was stalling so I abruptly ended our chatting and headed us in the direction of the beautiful evening light.
She was right. As soon as the camera came out her eyes got wide and she was in total shock or fear or something. I don't know. She looked at me, she looked at Sally, at the ground, oh my, she just wasn't sure about this whole thing. We continued to laugh and chat and she did finally warm up to the camera. I was able to capture her gorgeous natural smile; no tricks necessary. Check her out!
